DO NOT put it in the blue bin:
In British Columbia, bubble wrap is not accepted in curbside recycling programs due to its potential to interfere with recycling machinery. Most curbside programs DO NOT accept any kinds of flexible plastic wrap. It needs to be grouped with other soft plastics, which require special handling.
How to Recycle Bubble Wrap in BC:
Regional Recycling Nanaimo:
Regional Recycling Nanaimo is a participating RCBC Recycling Depot location that collects bubble wrap and other plastic wrap materials for recycling. This facility is dedicated to reducing plastic waste by ensuring these materials are properly processed and repurposed, rather than ending up in landfills. By offering a convenient drop-off point for bubble wrap and plastic wraps, Regional Recycling Nanaimo supports environmental sustainability and encourages the community to engage in responsible recycling practices.
Participating Recycling Depots:
They can be dropped off at a participating depot free of charge. For a complete list of locations, visit the RCBC Recyclepedia or contact the RCBC Recycling Hotline. Bubble wrap from commercial sources is not included in the Recycle BC program. Always verify with your local recycling guidelines or the Recycle BC website to see if there has been any updates to the recycling protocols for plastic films and bubble wrap.
London Drugs:
You can also recycle the packaging from any product purchased from London Drugs at a London Drugs Store. Whether it’s a tube of sunscreen, lotion or a TV, whenever you purchase a product from London Drugs, you can bring back the packaging for recycling as part of their Green Deal program (receipt may be required).

Tips for Recycling Bubble Wrap:
Keep Clean and Dry:
Ensure that the bubble wrap is free of any adhesive labels, tape, and is not wet. Contaminants can hinder the recycling process.
Reuse Options:
Before considering recycling, think about reusing bubble wrap for storage or future moving needs. Reuse bubble wrap to pack your suitcase by wrapping it around delicate items, providing cushioning and protection during travel. Reuse extends the life of the material and reduces the demand for new plastic production.
Importance of Proper Disposal:
Proper disposal of bubble wrap is crucial for maintaining efficient recycling operations and for ensuring that it does not end up in landfills unnecessarily. By checking with Recycle BC or your local waste management authority, you can find the most environmentally friendly way to dispose of or recycle bubble wrap in your area.
