TERMS & CONDITIONS

1. Introduction

Welcome to Regional Recycling. These Terms and Conditions govern your use of our services, website, and any related applications. By using our services, you agree to comply with these terms. If you do not agree, please refrain from using our services.

2. Services

Regional Recycling provides comprehensive recycling solutions, including but not limited to:

Beverage container recycling – We pay deposit refunds on beverage containers as per British Columbia’s Recycling Regulation (B.C. Reg. 449/2004), which governs the collection, handling, and reimbursement of refundable beverage containers under the provincial Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) program. The amount refunded varies by pickup service. For any drop-off service, we pay full refunds.

Scrap metal recycling – Payments for scrap metal are determined by the type and weight of the material and are regulated by the BC Metal Recycling Act and Regulations, which oversee the purchase, sale, and record-keeping requirements for scrap metal transactions in British Columbia. We only pay for non-ferrous metals, and payments are based on daily commodity market pricing, which may fluctuate. Only certain depots pay for non-ferrous scrap metals. For more details, visit our location page: Regional Recycling Locations.

Bottle drives and commercial recycling – These programs are derivatives of the beverage container recycling program and follow the same regulatory framework. Payments are either made in full deposit or with a deposit reduction, depending on the specific service conditions.

Other recycling programs – This includes electronics and appliance recycling, battery and light bulb recycling, hazardous waste recycling, and other materials listed on our website and searchable via our online tool. The recycling of these materials is regulated under the BC Recycling Regulation, with Regional Recycling voluntarily participating in stewardship programs facilitated by organizations such as Stewardship Agencies of BC. These programs are free to drop off as they are EPR-based products.

Recycling of Non-EPR Regulated Products – For other products that are not regulated under an EPR program but are accepted at our depots, such as paper products and cardboard (which are generally free to recycle), we may need to charge a fee based on commodity market conditions and the cost to recycle. Any applicable fees may be charged at any time without prior notice.

Innovative Recycling Programs – Including FastDrop, Quikcount, and Depozip.

Regional Recycling may refrain from participating in any of the stewardship programs at any time, which may result in a reduction of acceptable items, without public consultation. Any changes to program participation will be reflected on our website and communication materials. Customers subscribed to our email newsletter may receive updates about major changes to our service offerings. Conversely, we may opt to participate in new stewardship programs and expand our service offerings at any time. Additionally, stewardship organizations can and will change the products they accept for recycling, and such changes will be reflected in our offerings accordingly. This may occur at any time without prior notice.

3. User Responsibilities

  • You must provide accurate information when using our services.

  • You agree to comply with all applicable recycling regulations and policies.

  • You shall not misuse or disrupt our services in any way.

  • You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of any account credentials when using our online services.

  • Regional Recycling maintains a strict “no abuse of staff” policy, meaning we will not tolerate any form of abusive behavior towards our employees, including verbal aggression, threats, harassment, or physical violence. Any instances of staff abuse will be investigated thoroughly, and appropriate disciplinary action will be taken.

4. Payment and Refund Policy

  • Deposits on beverage containers are refunded in accordance with British Columbia’s Recycling Regulation (B.C. Reg. 449/2004).

  • Payments for scrap metal are determined by the type and weight of the material and are governed by the BC Metal Recycling Act and Regulations.

  • Refunds are only provided for eligible recyclable materials as per our policies.

5. Container Counts

We take measures to ensure accurate container counts. Containers are counted by individual container type, and these counts are recorded in our system. For most beverage container recycling at our depots, customers are present while their containers are counted. Customers may request a recount before finalizing their transaction. Once counted, a ticket is issued, and payment is collected through our ATMs. Since customers observe the counting process, these counts are considered final. If there is a discrepancy between the ATM cash dispensed and the receipt amount, it must be reported to staff immediately at the time of transaction.

For our pickup or drop-off services, including FastDrop, Bottle Drives, Commercial Recycling, or Depozip, there may be instances where a bag is missing, or a count discrepancy occurs. In such cases, customers must contact us within 14 days of the container count so we can investigate. While our counts are considered final, we will review concerns in good faith, consistent with BC consumer protection law.

BC Purchase Requirement

We only pay for empty beverage containers that were purchased in British Columbia, Canada, and for which a deposit was originally paid. Each container’s label and barcode should be clearly identifiable. For more information regarding container eligibility, visit the Registered Brands Database by Return-It.

For more information on beverage container recycling in BC and the laws governing our deposit refund process, please refer to British Columbia’s Recycling Regulation (B.C. Reg. 449/2004).

6. Limitation of Liability

Regional Recycling is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from the use of our services, including but not limited to disruptions, service delays, or errors in processing transactions. While we strive to ensure continuous and accurate service, we do not guarantee uninterrupted access or error-free operations.

Security Cameras

For security and operational purposes, our depots are equipped with surveillance cameras. These recordings are retained for up to one year and are used strictly for internal purposes. Footage is not shared with third parties except in cases of potential theft, where it may be provided to the RCMP or local authorities. These cameras record activity on-site and are used for internal purposes only.

We reserve the right to terminate access to our services for violations of these terms or any illegal activities.

8. Governing Law

These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of British Columbia, Canada.
