Do you know all of the different types of beverage containers that have a deposit refund in BC?

Many people are unaware of all of the container types they can recycle for a refund. Please check our ‘Can I recycle this container?’ article to learn more about the beverage containers you can recycle for a refund.

Milk is now worth $0.10 and is part of the deposit system.

There’s a simple way you can reduce greenhouse gas emissions, minimize air and water pollution, and conserve energy and natural resources. By recycling your bottles and cans, you’re creating a healthier, more sustainable environment.

But how do a few bottles and cans make a difference? Recycled aluminum cans are melted down and reformed into new cans, decreasing energy consumption by 95% compared to creating new ones. Plastic bottles are made from petroleum, a non-renewable resource, so when recycled over 3.8 barrels of oil for every tonne of plastic that’s recycled is saved. When just one glass bottle is recycled, enough energy is conserved to power a 100-watt light bulb for four hours. So, when people say throwing out one bottle doesn’t make a difference, they couldn’t be more wrong.

At our Regional Recycling Depot in Vancouver, we can properly recycle all bottles and cans to conserve energy and increase sustainability.

Ok out of all the Recycling depot. This one is the most organized one. So you go and grab a cart and push it to your car (open your trunk) and start stacking your cans and beer bottle. Yes, I rarely go to the recycling depot and when I do go, I make sure I have a lot. Yes, I don’t like to make special small trips. I rather do one big trip. So after you are done stacking the bottles and cans, you push the entire cart to inside and they will count and a ticket. You bring the ticket to get scanned and get your cash deposit back. – Denise W.

The best thing about this place is that, it’s big! There are a lot of stations you can go to and spread out your recyclables and grab a cart and work at your own pace!!

The staff does a quick count and gives you a code, which you can take to the money dispensing machine.

After you are all done, there is soap and water to clean up! – Arjun B

This is a well set up facility. There’s loads of parking. Carts are available to sort out your returns. Wheel them in and an employee counts your returns, then hands the slip to the cashier where you get paid. Simple, organized, and efficient. – Dick L.

Great facility.  Lots of easy parking, lots of big carts that you can roll right up to your trunk for unloading/sorting.  A staff member will count up your returns (very quick!) and hand you a ticket, which you take to the cashier.  Everyone was friendly.  Nice hand washing station for when you are finished.  They also take bulk cardboard (perfect for after moving apartments!) and electronics.  They pay full price on all empties.  They do not give refunds on milk bottles (Avalon).  I felt very safe and welcome there.  Recommended. – Shannon F.
