The ability to recycle plastics started in the early ’70s, but we didn’t see plastic recycling begin to take off until the ’80s. For those of us that still remember the 80’s it was a time of music hits that changed our lives and for generations to come, hair spray, and TV dinners – but it was not a time of recycling. While plastic recycling became possible, slowly growing throughout countries worldwide, it still took decades to become common practice.

Do you remember those first few weeks when COVID hit the world? It was a scary and uncertain time, but something else also happened. The world took a collective breath and stayed home from work, holidays, and everything else. We slowed down and started to see nature take back the world.
Many of us are back in the office and are enjoying being around our coworkers again. With this comes team events, collaborative work, and team lunches and celebrations. What usually comes with all those activities is recyclable containers, papers, and more.
When COVID hit in early 2020, we saw all types of industries slowing down, closing down, or pivoting. Those who found a new way to offer their services to the community survived and thrived. We saw businesses such as Sons of Vancouver Distillery shift from supplying delicious snacks and spirits to making and providing the community with hand sanitizer. There are so many inspiring and uplifting stories to choose from. Here is one that is near and dear to the team at Regional Recycling.
Regional Recycling is a family business, now with its fourth generation working on the company. Though the name has changed, recycling has been in his family since the early 1900s. Recycling is one of the country’s oldest professions, called scrapping back in the day. We still see it now with industrious locals who collect empties and scrap metal to earn money.
While the 10-cent deposit will be charged to consumers effective October 1 2020, a transition period for consumers to receive the 20-cent refund will be in effect until October 11, 2020 inclusive.
