We are thrilled to announce that the BC charity, Backpack Buddies is our Charity of the Month for January. We are kicking off the new year by collecting donations for this incredible cause.

The Cause.

Did you know that over 10% of BC’s families are living below the poverty line? This can mean their children get their most substantial meals at school or other activities. With inflation, healing from the pandemic, and the ever-rising expenses of living in BC, many families are struggling to make ends meet. This can mean more children than ever are experiencing food poverty.

Backpack Buddies was founded in 2012. Their mission is to tackle the weekend hunger gap by collaborating with educators, social workers and other non-profits across the province. Each week they fill backpacks with food for children to take home over the weekend. This act means that families will be able to eat nutritious meals each weekend. You can help this incredible organization by doing what you are already doing, recycling.

How we help.

At Regional Recycling, we have selected Backpack Buddies to be our Charity of the Month once again. We will collect donations via bins in our mainland depot locations and Depozip and Fastdrop accounts. Simply sign into your account and select from our list of featured charities.

Backpack Buddies provides over 4,000 hungry kids across BC with bags of food every Friday. Help us support this great cause and ensure that families across BC are no longer living with food poverty. Every $20 you give provides a child with meals and snacks to last them the weekend and beyond.
